How to Safely Dismantle and Relocate a Ceiling Swing
Moving homes? Transporting a heavy, 150+ kg stainless steel ceiling swing requires more than just calling the movers. Without proper care, you risk damaging the polish, your ceiling, or your spine.
Step 1: Preparation is Key
Step 2: Relieve the Tension
Do not try to unhook the chains while the swing is bearing its own weight.
1. Place the two stools directly underneath the swing seat.
2. Lift the swing slightly and slide the stools beneath it so the seat rests entirely on the stools.
3. The massive heavy steel chains will now go slack.
Step 3: Unbolting the Chains
Climb a secure A-frame ladder. With the chains slack, you can easily open the S-hook, D-shackle, or carabiner connecting the chain to the ceiling anchor.
*Tip:* Keep all the small connective D-shackles in a Ziploc bag taped directly to the swing seat so you don't lose them during the move.
Step 4: Wrapping for Transit
Leaving the Old Hooks Behind
Do not try to yank the old expansion bolts out of the RCC concrete ceiling of your old home; they are permanently wedged. Simply unscrew the hook loop, leaving the bolt shaft in the concrete, and let the new owner patch the hole.
Buy a fresh, new set of anchor fasteners for your new home.
