DIY Fixes: Eliminating Squeaking Noises from Your Jhula
Few things are more annoying than a relaxing swing session ruined by a high-pitched, metallic *screech* on every arc. Here is how to diagnose and permanently fix a noisy swing.
The Source of the Squeak
99% of swing noises originate from the ceiling hook suspension point where metal rubs against metal.
Fix 1: The Quick Fix (WD-40 and Machine Oil)
If your swing is suspended on standard S-Hooks:
1. Spray a quick burst of WD-40 onto the top hook joint to disperse any rust or humidity.
2. Wait 10 minutes.
3. Apply 3-4 drops of heavy machine oil (or even castor oil/motor oil) directly where the chain link meets the hook.
*Why this works:* WD-40 cleans the joint, but it evaporates fast. The heavy oil stays in the joint, providing lasting lubrication.
Fix 2: The Permanent Upgrade (Install Bearings)
Basic friction hooks will always eventually squeak. The ultimate fix is to upgrade the hardware.
Replace your ceiling hooks with Sealed Ball-Bearing Swivel Hooks. Because the weight rotates on internal greased steel ball-bearings instead of metals grinding against each other, the swing becomes completely, permanently silent.
*(Note: Vrundavan Steel Industries utilizes heavy-duty bearing hooks as a standard on all our premium swing installations).*
Fix 3: The Wood Creak
If the noise isn't coming from the ceiling, but from the wooden seat itself, it is "wood creep." The joints holding the seat together have loosened.
